How to manually add tiers to HU card..

EXPERT ACTIVATION: Adding Tiers manually to a Subbed HU card

The following is a step by step process to manually add tiers to your
subbed or cloned subbed card leaving the valuable subbed tier
information undisturbed. I have tried to make this as clear and simple
as possible and that means having to explain the same thing twice, so
if you don?t understand it at first keep reading and hopefully it will
make itself clear to you. If you already have an advanced understandig
of tier info and don?t want to read this entire document then skip to
the very bottom and it will all be summed up for you.

I realize that this process is time consuming, but that is part of the
fun, and you will also learn a lot more about how the card actually
works.

Why should you do this instead of simply using an activation hex from
the net? Here are a few good reasons:

ˆ All subscribers are assigned one of 256 unique sets of expiration
dates for every possible tier. If that date doesn't match your group's
exact date for that tier those channels will be wiped when the tier
updates occur (which will result in loss of those channels).

ˆ Activation scripts work, but they replace ALL of the tier data on
your card, including the channels you subscribe to, with their own
random dates that rarely (if ever) match your subbed card?s group data.
You don't want to disturb the subbed tiers by writing a different hex
file over the subscription data.

ˆ The tiers you manually add will last a little longer since they will
include each card's unique and specific checksums needed for proper
activation.

ˆ You can also ensure that the channels you really want to see stay up
longer by adding more tiers.

ˆ Channels you don't ever watch at all (or don't want your children to
see) don't need to be added to your card, and that empty spot can be
used for tier data for a channel you care more about.

HOW TO MANUALLY ADD TIERS TO YOUR SUBBED HU CARD

1. Read and save your original subbed bin in extremeHU 1.7x or greater
(The bin should have no additional activation applied to it).

2.In extremeHU go to the ?View? menu and select the ?Tier Data?
option. You will see all the hexidecimal code for tiers for the
channels you subscribe to along with the expiration dates diplayed in
extremeHU. These expiration dates change periodically and are
subscriber specific. All subscribers are assigned to be in one of 256
groups, and each group has unique sets of expiration dates for every
possible tier. If that date doesn't match your group's date for that
tier, that channel (or groups of channels) will drop off when the tier
updates occur (which is why you don't want to disturb subbed tiers by
writing a different hex over that data). Activation scripts replace all
of the tier data (including tiers for channels that you subscribe to)
with their own dates that rarely if ever match your card?s group data.

4. Next you need to access the latest tier list (the latest one at the
time of writing this is included with this file). The tier data changes
often, so it is best to use a recently updated tier list (over time you
will notice that some channels never seem to change tiers, while others
seem to change frequently). You can find recent tier listings at most
download sites, or by asking in forums for the latest tier data. On
the tier listing you will see something like this:

HBO 501 - 3335 61D7 61FA 62BF 62C2

The ?HBO? is obviously the network, and the ?501? is the channel
number, and ?3335 61D7 61FA 62BF 62C2? are the activation codes.

[NOTE: lso Included with this file is a?reverse? tier listing that
lists all of the channels by the activation code they use, and it
groups them together by the channels that each activation code
activates so you can see which channels or groups of channels are
affected by which codes. You will note that certain channels are by
themselves and some channels are grouped together according to whatever
package you might subscribe to.]

5- Look through the tier list and write down a list of the activation
codes for the non-subbed tiers you want to add. Let's use HBO for
example. To help the non-subbed channels I want to see stay up longer
I like to add 3 (or more) different tiers since they get wiped at
different times. You can add only just one tier or add as many
different tiers as you want for each non-subbed channel you wish to see
(there is obviously no need to add tiers to channels that your subbed
card already receives). Using HBO as an example, let?s choose the
following activation codes:

33 35
61 FA
62 BF

Look through the list and do the activation codes for all other
non-subbed channels you want, and write these numbers down on a piece
of paper or in notepad. You will note that many channels are listed
more than once in different groups of channels- this is because there
are different tiers for each package you can subscribe to. So- if you
add all of the tier options for HBO it will be as if you had a Total
Choice, Total Chice Plus, and Total Choice premier subscriptions, etc.
for that channel all on the same card.

6. Decide what expiration date you want to use. (NOTE: The exact date
you choose doesn't matter, but the later the better WITHIN REASON).
Remember, once this date passes, you will have to re-edit your bin
again. I suggest using an expiration date about 90 days ahead, so in
our example we will pick 06/15/2002 The tiers will NOT last for 90
days, but if you choose an expiration date of 90 days you will only
have to edit your bin once every there months, or four times a year.
You will then simply reapply the bin whenever you notice channels start
dropping off (which happens when the non-subbed tiers get wiped and
that can be anywhere from a couple days to a week or so).

7. In extreme under tools, open the date conversation utility. For our
example we will type in 06/15/2002 and click on the = sign. This
returns a two byte hexidecimal code of 7D CF. Write this data next to
each of your list of non-subbed tiers you are adding (NOTE: write it
with a crayon or pencil or in notepad or whatever- you are not editing
the eeprom at this point-that will come after you get all six bytes).
Here is our example:

33 35 7D CF
61 FA 7D CF
62 BF 7D CF

You now have 4 of the required 6 bytes for each of your new tiers.

8. Next you need to calculate the checksum bytes for each tier. In
extremeHU under tools, open the checksum calculator. For this step you
will need to put your card in the loader and perform and I/O operation
(glitch) since the calculator uses routines only found on the card's
rom. Once the card has glitched and the checksum calculator comes up
enter the 4 bytes for each tier, without any spaces and hit return:

33357DCF

The checksum for that value will be shown in the blue message window of
extremeHU. In our example it would be ?2B3C?. Write that value down on
your list next to the corresponding 4 bytes. Here is our example:

33 35 7D CF 2B 3C

You now have the 6 bytes needed to activate a blank tier for HBO. This
example tier is set to expire on 6/15/2002 (with checksums for that
specific card).

Repeat this procedure until you have all 6 bytes for each of the
non-subbed tiers you're adding.

9. Next you will need a bin from a valid subscribed card to edit this
data to. Read your subbed card in extremeHU and save it under a name
such as ?ACTIVATION-6152002.bin? and remember where you save it. If
you don't have the card available then open a saved bin from a valid
subbed card in extremeHU. I like to include the expiration date I am
going to use in the name of the saved bin so you can remember when to
edit a new bin, but that is obviously your choice.

10. To view the eeprom dump, go to the view menu and select ?Eeprom
Dump?. Place cursor in blue message window and right click. Select
?edit mode - on.? You'll notice the eeprom data has changed in some
areas of the eeprom. This is because those areas are encrypted on the
eeprom, but they are unencrypted in the edit mode.

10. Edit the bin to add the new non-subbed tiers to the tier area
(Make sure you don?t write over any of the subbed tiers). The TIER area
is the area of the card you're interested in editing, and it begins at
the address 2106 and ends at 22F1. Look at address 2106 and you will
see the first of two bytes of your first subbed tier. 2107 has the
second, 2108 & 2109 are the expiration date bytes, and 210A & 210B are
the checksum bytes. The next 6 bytes are your second subbed tier data,
and so on until 22F1, which is the last address for the tier area.
Using the large arrows to the left side of the edit line, scroll down
until you come to bytes containing 00?s. This is where you will start
to add your new tier info, just like the subbed ones above it.

13. Enter the data from your list carefully one byte at a time until
you reach the end of the row. Click on "write row" before moving on the
the next line or the data will not be saved. Also, please remember that
you will not always end each row with the sixth byte of a tier, so
remember where you left off when you start the next row. Continue
adding all your new tier data and recheck as necessary. The tier data
is 6 bytes long, and each line of data has 16 spaces for bytes, so the
data will carry over to the next line at times. For example- if the
first free tier are on your sub is at address 212A then you fill in the
next six bytes with your tier data, in our example it would be:

33 35 7D CF 2B 3C

It may be that the next available address (2130 in our example) and six
bytes are filled with data already- this is fine- just move along until
you see 0?s and enter your next tier data manually.

14. When you are satisfied that your entries are complete and accurate,
close the editor and save your bin. Write this bin to your cards. and
re-write the bin when the non-subs fall off below your comfort level.

Note: Your subbed tiers will be updated periodically as their
expiration dates near. It is a good idea to read your card occasionally
to see just when this occurs. If the subbed tiers have been updated, go
to the eeprom dump, activate the edit mode, and edit the non-subbed
tier data on that bin and save it. Write this new bin to the card and
you are back in business.

so- to sum it all up:
1) First choose the proper channel activation code code for each tier
or groups of tiers you want to see from a recent tier list.
2) Figure out the expiration date for your tiers in extremeHU by using
the date conversation utility.
3) Calculate the checksum bytes for each tier and expiration date using
the checksum calculator in extremeHU.
4) Your 6 byte tier data is: AA AA BB BB CC CC (A= channel activation
code, B=expiration date hex, C= Checksum for previous bytes)
5) Open the eeprom dump of your subbed bin in extremeHU and manually
enter your tier data in any open spaces in the tier area (2106-22F1)
and save the edited dump as a new bin.
6) Write the edited bin to your card, and reapply whenever the tiers
start to drop off.

I hope this helps. Enjoy.

To save some time, try to create an activation file from the sub card using
crtl+alt+A keys. This will create an activation file with the tier and tier dates from
the sub card. You can then add more tier and tierdates to the file and write it to
the card, without changing the original tier data on the card.

Maybe this will make sense..
Also when searching for the correct tier code I found that if you alternate the tier
codes you can find your group faster.. example

hbo uses 3335, 61FA, and 62BF
sho uses 3336, 61FD, and 62BD

your group may be the 3335,3336 or the 61FA,61FD or the 62BF, 62BD
put it in the tier area in a mixed order.

hbo 3335
hbo 61FA
hbo 62BF
sho 61FD
sho 62BD
sho 3336

the tiers wipe only one at a time so if 3335,3336 is your group all the hbo tiers will
stay while the 61FD and 62BD for sho time will drop one after the other....
nevermind, I suck at explanations.......

**** Longer Running Activation

Here is a step by step for longer running activation:

1. Using Extreme 2.0a, read you subbed card.

2. Hit (ctrl-alt-a) and save file using default name.

3. Open that file in extreme's hex creator (under Tools).

4. You will see your subbed tiers with their proper expiration dates. e.g.
C-Tier/Date=3376/7DC5, etc...

5. Click on the last line of tier data and then click on the box, "Insert Blank Line."

6. In the "Address" box at the bottom type in #

7. In the "Data to Write at Address" box. type in you unsubscribed tier data. You
need the latest tier list. See the files section of your forum. Let's use a tier for HBO
in this example. We are going to add this same tier six times, but with different
dates for each.

C-Tier/Date=61FA/7DC1,61FA/7DC2,61FA/7DC3,61FA/7DC4,
61FA/7DC5,61FA/7DC6

Using the date calculator, 7DC1 is June 1, 7DC2 is June 2 and so on...

You can only have six sets of tier and dates per line.

8. Click on "Write Line" box and you will see your new line added up above.

9. Repeat this process adding other lines until you have all the tiers you want. Use
the same set of 6 dates. You can have a total of 80+tier entries, so you should be
able to get almost everything you want opened.

10. Save this file with any name you want.

11. With your subbed card, or a clone or your subbed card in loader, write this
extreme hex file to it using "add tiers only."

Now your subbed tiers will not drop because they contain their proper expiration
dates, and the non-subbed tiers will stay up much longer because they each have
six individual tiers that will fall off one at a time. I've had some stay up two week
and longer before needing to refresh.

Before refreshing the tiers, re-read your card's epprom to see if your subbed tiers
have taken up any new expiration dates. Look at "Tier Data" under "View" in
extreme after reading epprom. If you see new dates for tiers you subscribe to, note
these dates and open your activation file in hex creator and edit these dates on
those tiers only. Save the file and refresh tiers on your card using this file.

Try this out. I think you will be pleased. By the way, if you only need to add a few
tiers, try adding them 12 times with different dates. They will last even longer.
Enjoy.
